The day I found out the name and address of the Brazilian pizzeria that stuffed with surreal seals her pizzas (like chocolate and Smarties, creme caramel in the center and dried tomatoes plus olives around, or a whole roasted chicken), I had promised myself to go there.
Had it also been in the most remote location of the Amazon rainforest.
This happens: at the end of November 2015, spread on the timeline of all my friends, I intercept photos of amazing pizzas that go viral like Kim Kardashian's naked selfies. And as for the nude photographs, those with a taut thigh and pouting at the heart, the variations of Bella who you are are wasted in the comments to the images of Brazilian pizzas.
It makes sense to ask who is behind that ingenious carbohydrate marketing coup. Curiosity impossible to satisfy because at first the Brazilian pizza campaign seems spontaneous. The ownership of the pizzeria has nothing to do with it, which in fact remains unknown.
But now Munchies, the rib with which Vice wants to bring generation Y closer to food, has solved the mystery.
The pizza chef is Roberto Dos Santos and the pizzeria, located in Guarujá, a coastal town in the state of São Paulo, is called Pizzaria Bate Papo (chat in Portuguese).
In fact Dos Santos knew that a pizza topped in a more extravagant way than usual (although in Brazil they usually mean french fries, stroganoff fillets, shellfish and sushi), it goes viral easily, as well as a nude selfie when compared to a photograph. in business suit.
It all started five years ago. The Brazilian pizza chef's sense for the strange famolo leads him to knead gigantic pizzas (16 slices per pizza, over 50 centimeters in diameter) in order to combine traditional toppings with something sweet. It is his answer to the question: how can I give to customers main course and dessert on the same plate?
So to mozzarella and tomato, ham and mushrooms he adds dulce de leite (a milk-based dessert very common in Latin America), brigadeiro (also called Brazilian truffle, sweet made with condensed milk and chocolate), chopped coconut and M & M candies.
But the turning point came when Dos Santos places a whole roast chicken on his pizza, takes a photo and shares it on the pizzeria's Facebook page.
The image goes viral, the pizza chef replies to comments, then shares new ones. The procession of the curious begins in the pizzeria of Guarujà, the television discovers Dos Santos and invites him to talk about his pizzas making him a little celebrity.
Once in the dance the pizza chef decides to dance. The toppings become more and more incredible, at the center of the pizzas there are alternating six-can packs of beer, lobsters, bunches of bananas, even a whole watermelon.
But the records of views established by the club's followers from 43 different countries belong to a couple of videos that respectively show a gigantic pizza (diameter 90 cm.) Composed of 44 slices and with 13 different toppings, and a surfboard that sails placidly among the waves of the sea with the usual pizza lying on top of it (it doesn't really have to be, if it is true that the video has been viewed 50 thousand times).
Meanwhile, since the famous photo of pizza topped with a whole roast chicken went viral, the pizzeria's turnover has increased by 40 percent. Dos Santos next to the oven is now an icon with which to take a selfie, and if he can't, because he's busy kneading, there's always his life-size hardcover.
The next project is an uber pizza of more 50 slices. “From a logistical point of view it is a problem,” Dos Santos told Munchies, “because I have to adapt the oven. But by now, always thinking about the next move has become normal for me “.
