The food came photographed even before we started talking about food blogs. But how much we love doing it! So much so that one wonders if the table is set with a knife, fork and smartphone because #food on Instagram counts three times the number of #cat. And we understood each other.
Our appetite for images has become insatiable, so much so that in the sixth edition of the Food Photographer of the Year 2016, one of the leading international food photography awards, over 7,000 shots from 60 different countries arrived this year.
Yesterday the jury made up of gastronomes, photographers, journalists and cooks (the famous Australian telechef Curtis Stone) issued the verdict, awarding a series of photographs that have so much to do with desire, including floured chefs, succulent sandwiches, hungry children and sunrises psychedelic, to fall under the category of foodporn.
Let's find out together the winners in each of the 15 categories.
1. Children's table - Lucy Pope - Food Sn-apping category
Smartphone category award. The photo taken from above seems to have been taken with the help of a ladder.

2. Octopus on ice - Petra Novotna, Czech Republic - Category Crop
Octopus is not always photogenic. But by challenging the clichés, it can be seen in a plastic pose, lying on a bed of ice.

3. Treasure of the sea - Olimpia Davies - Food Blogger Category
Octopus tentacles that emerge from a tangle of cuttlefish ink pasta. The foodblogger's plate becomes a kind of canvas to hang on the wall.

4. The Grand Kitchen - Shoeb Faruqee, Bangladesh - Food Category
A smoky room, dim light, no Western idea of cooking. Many people (including, bottom right, a one-armed man turning a cauldron) cook for a lot of other people.

5. Go Home - Viktoria Moskaalenko - Category Bring Home the Harvest
Back home, the shepherd follows the flock. Only one of the dogs stops and stares at the car behind them all. But where is the food? And what we often don't think about in the presence of live animals.

6. Appreciate every piece - Marcin Jucha, UK - Politic of Food Category
Cuba. A filthy room and three men struggling with a dismembered pig. A Christ observes everything from the wall, almost at the same height as men. The table with the bottles looks like a votive altar.

7. Salmon still life - Susan Bell, UK - Press Production Category
Still life in foodie version?

8. Floating Vegetable Market - Paula Watts, USA - Food Category
A floating market on the water. Kayaks, canoes and typical boats instead of the benches. But the substance does not change: haggling is an art in every corner of the world.

9. Mayasara Winery - Robert Holmes, USA - Wine of the year category
To disinfect and prevent infestation by insects, sulfur sticks are burned in wooden barrels. The hypnotic effect recalls an opium den.

10. Puno, Lake Titicaca - Robert Holmes, USA - Food Adventures Category
A ramshackle banquet under the blinding sun and the profile of a woman in traditional dress: and it is immediately Peru.

11. Chicken Cheese Toastie - Jean Cazals, UK - Food Portraiture Category
A cutlass skewered in the sandwich that exudes grease and opulence. Kill the junk food.

12. Picnic - Maja Danica Pecanic, Croatia - Food for the Family Category
Hat and scarves: it's clear, it's cold. Which doesn't stop the adventurous family from eating next to the stream.

13. Unstill Life - Polina Plotnikova, United Kingdom - Category An Apple a day
White demands attention by distracting the gaze from the moving apples that become a juggler's balls.

14. Wild Garlic carpet - Robin Goodlad, UK - Field category
A relaxing bucolic scene with the sun cutting a glade of blooming garlic in two. Nature effect.

15. Flour Frenzy - Mark Benham, UK (overall winner)
Ethereal puffs as the very idea of baking, this was the judges' all-time favorite photograph. Be careful not to get too dirty if you want to take a copy at home.
