We had suspected that it exercised some power over the mind. In our own way we were right, since sniff powder of chocolate, consume it in the form of pills or again drinking dense cocoa concentrates are becoming a trend in clubs in Berlin and other European cities, due to the (alleged) action on the brain.
The magnesium contained in cocoa relaxes the muscles, i flavonols help the blood pressure and the cognitive function, while the endorphins released from the brain give a sense of relaxation.
According to the British newspaper Independent, snorting chocolate is not a cause hallucinogenic effects, and European clubbers are probably experimenting with the placebo effect.
However, the idea is not new: in 2007 the Belgian chocolatier Dominique Persoone created a device called "Chocolate Shooter" that allows you to grate chocolate powder from a bar and sniff it.
Whether the high is true or not, moderate consumption of chocolate at least once a week has been shown to help the nervous system and ward off depression.
