From the refusal that the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella opposed the opening of a McDonald's in Piazza Duomo, with a great crowd of controversies, only a few weeks have passed.
The city council explained the reasons: the architectural project, with a towering yellow M dangerously close to Santa Maria del Fiore, the fast food, judged not very appropriate to the context, the incidence of Italian PGI and PDO products, judged too modest.
Yet, fresh fresh, the new of the opening in Via del Corso 12, full historical center of the city, of the former pastry shop European dedicated to Hello Kitty.
We are a few meters from Piazza della Repubblica, and from the first photos you can glimpse the lysergic tenor, a bon-bon pink that the Japanese kitten has been carrying around for over forty years.
And we can also imagine the rest: the range of pink confectionary desserts, from macarons to muffins, candies, lollipops. Counter, display cabinets, gadgets: all branded with a white nose and a pink bow.
Although the opening is near, everything is silent in the city, no distinction from the municipal council or from shopkeepers and restaurateurs, staunch defenders of the Unesco regulation which provides for at least 50% of food at km0, and in any case 'traditional'.
At this point, it is legitimate to ask why McDonald's not and yes instead to the company that manages the Japanese brand?
