In 1982 I was more or less the age of Stella, the protagonist of the poignant short made by Gabriele Salvatores for Banca Intesa, and like her, I dreamed of the toys advertised on TV. There were Crystal Ball and Cicciobello. And there was the Dolce Forno: a little girl explained from the screen that everyone could make haute patisserie delicacies. After a couple of attempts I had given up. Instead Stella has cooking in her blood. Sitting in the back seat of a battered 127 she dreams of a picture book full of little pastry chefs. The mother knows her daughter's passion and tries in every way to indulge it, forever marking the lives of both: "that was the last gift my mother gave me; from that day on, maybe I'm just trying to deserve it. " In the short film of Salvatores, Stella's life is intertwined with another, the surprise ending suggests watching the ENTIRE video. Two stories that got off to a bad start, with no prospects: in both cases the redemption takes place in the kitchen, the mother's womb, a place away from everything, where you can give vent to your imagination and talent, and quietly rebuild your existence. Then there is really something to toast: the glasses are the beautiful ones and the temperature of the wine is right; we celebrate the revenge against destiny, the overturning of the inevitable. Above all we drink from dreams, big and small, born in front of one of those toys that are no longer seen today.
