In the twelfth round of Tasting Test, a weekly test of products of the same category, possibly of large consumption, we return to quench our thirst with a drink. This is suggested by the record heat of the last remnants of summer and the fact that so far we have reserved only one comparison for drinks, the protagonist was the chinotto. Today it's up to 5 orange sodas found in Super and specialty shops.

THE CONTENDENTS

- Abbondio

- Fanta

- Oransoda (Campari Group)

- Paoletti

- San Pellegrino

CRITERIA

- Visual aspect

- Olfactory analysis

- Effervescence

- Taste

The test was carried out "blindly". As always, I remember that I am not a food technologist, and that the verdict is objective with personal-affective deviations.

# 5 Fanta

Format: 50 cl

Ingredients: water, orange juice (12%), sugar, carbon dioxide, citric acid acidifier, natural citrus flavors, acacia gum stabilizer, ascorbic acid antioxidant.

Bottled with the authorization of The Coca Cola Company by Coca Cola HBC srl, headquarters: Milan, plant: Gaglianico (BI).

Present nutritional information.

Judgment: vaguely recalls a medicine.

Packaging: pet bottle, slim line with exaggerated curves.

Visual aspect: cloudy yellow color, perceived a timid effervescence.

Olfactory analysis: aseptic.

Effervescence: if the sight was almost denied to the palate it does not go unnoticed.

Taste: medical and sweet, tiring. The orange is imperceptible.

Price: € 1.59 / per l. therefore € 0, 80

Price / happiness ratio: appropriate, the cheapest is placed last.

In short: artificial.

# 4 Oransoda

Format: 50 cl

Ingredients: water, orange juice (12%), sugar, glucose-fructose syrup, carbon dioxide, citric acid acidifier, flavorings, potassium sorbate preservative. The presence of orange pulp on the bottom is due to the natural components of the product.

Produced by DCM S.p. A. - 28862 Crodo, Italy.

Judgment: sweet like orange honey.

Packaging: classic pet bottle, clunky line than the Fanta, suggestion: go on a diet.

Visual aspect: light yellow, as indicated on the label there are fragments of pulp.

Olfactory analysis: you can smell the orange.

Effervescence: but what happened to the gas?

Taste: sweet and a little annoying. If you like De Filippi's honeyed talent, it could be for you.

Price: € 1.64 / per l. then € 0, 82

Price / happiness ratio: adequate.

In short: extremely sweet.

# 3 Sanpellegrino orange juice

Format: 50 cl

Ingredients: water, orange juice (15.6%), glucose-fructose syrup, sugar, carbon dioxide, acidifiers: citric acid, natural orange flavor.

Sanpellegrino S.p. A. Via Lodovico il Moro 35 (MI). San Giorgio in Bosco plant (PD)

Present nutritional information.

Judgment: flavor that begins to take shape, the amount of sugar decreases.

Packaging: careful pot-bellied pet bottle, which would otherwise burst.

Visual aspect: deep yellow color and dense, the bubbles are visible.

Olfactory analysis: attributable to orange.

Effervescence: calibrated gas.

Taste: the orange is there. The caramel attack is replaced by bitter notes that make the drink pleasant.

Price: € 1.64 / per l. then € 0, 82

Price / happiness ratio: good, it costs like the Oransoda but is in third place among the contenders.

In short: the sweet and the bitter.

# 2 Abbondio orange soda

Format: 25 cl

Ingredients: water, orange juice (12%), cane sugar, infusions, natural plant extracts and flavors, carbon dioxide.

With infusion of oranges from the Slow Food Presidium.

Produced by Abbondio S.p. A. Boffalora plant.

Present nutritional information.

Judgment: reddish, the real alternative of the test. Natural drink, light, without excess.

Packaging: slim glass bottle with vintage graphics. The pin up on the cover is seductive but icy.

Visual aspect: the reddest of the bunch, just poured foam like a craft beer. "Teo Musso come out of this body 2"!

Olfactory analysis: the orange stands out.

Effervescence: unlike the Abbondio chinotto, it is (at an early hour) very excited.

Taste: pleasantly citrusy, it starts well, the lingering touch of honey in the finish is flawed.

Price: € 3, 92 / per l. therefore € 0, 98

Price / happiness ratio: appropriate, but I find the price high anyway.

In short: nonconformist.

Judgment: the most balanced and tasty of the test, enjoyable flavor with negligible sweet effects.

Packaging: classic bottle with sinuous and elongated lines. Pin-up brunette and of clear Italian origin on the cover.

Visual aspect: the liveliest color galvanized by bubbles.

Olfactory analysis: Orange juice.

Effervescence: surprisingly tight gas.

Taste: fresh, delicate and balanced: excess sugars sound the retreat.

- I. n short: this is an exaggerated orange juice!

THINGS YOU LEARN FROM THIS TASTE TEST

Image
Image

You overdo it with sugar, the common denominator of too many Tasting Tests. The revelation is the outsider Abbondio, a natural drink and an eye-catching alternative to orange as we know it for color and taste. But it is the sweet and delicate flavor of Paoletti that wins out, evidently pagan equilibrium and constancy. The Sanpellegrino does not disappoint, a bronze medal that among the widely consumed oranges surpasses the Fanta, which is not very natural, and the Oransoda, which is too sweet.
