Let's go back to talking about wine, because the confirmation has arrived: the Lambrusco will have a single Consortium, in fact the Lambrusco Protection Consortium was born, the result of the merger of 3 Consortia and 8 denominations. Already in June there was talk of a possible union, with the decision that had been submitted to September after having obtained the favorable opinion of the Boards of Directors. And promptly this decision was taken: the single Consortium will be made.
Everything will start from January 1, 2021 when three Consortia will come together to form the Lambrusco Protection Consortium, composed of:
- Consortium for the Protection of Lambrusco di Modena
- Consortium for the Protection and Promotion of Dop Reggiano and Colli di Scandiano and Canossa Wines
- Consortium for the Protection of Vini del Reno Doc
The vote was unanimous and the merger will take place by incorporation. Eight denominations will fall under this newborn Consortium, including 16,600 hectares of vineyards and all located between Modena and Reggio Emilia:
- Lambrusco di Modena Doc
- Lambrusco di Sorbara Doc
- Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro Doc
- Lambrusco Salamino of S. Croce Doc
- Reggiano Doc
- Hills of Scandiano and Canossa Doc
- Reno Doc
- White of Castelfranco Emilia Igt
We speak of a production of more than 42 million bottles of Lambrusco Doc in 2019, a production that reaches 170 million if we also consider the Igt certificates.
