Go to China where food poisoning caused by spoiled noodles caused the death of 9 people of the same family. The noodles had been homemade and had been frozen for over a year.

It all happened in Jixi, a town located in the northeastern part of China. A family of 12 had decided to have breakfast with gods homemade noodles with fermented wheat flour and which had been in the freezer for more than a year. With those noodles they had prepared a typical Chinese dish, the suantangzi.

Nine family members ate these noodles, while three children refused to consume them: they had a strange taste. These three children were the only ones to survive: eight of the nine diners died after less than a week, while a 47-year-old woman died a few days ago, after two weeks.

Obviously, an investigation started immediately and the first analyzes ascertained the presence of several toxic substances inside those noodles.

For this reason, both local and national authorities have asked the inhabitants not to eat foods prepared with fermented flours as such foods are unsafe. In fact, I can contain acids and substances that seriously damage the liver, kidneys, heart and brain.

In the particular case, then, food poisoning and related deaths would have been caused by Bongkrek's acid, toxin produced by a bacterium: this toxin has no cure and can trigger symptoms in a few hours, causing death even in less than a day.
