L' Italian agriculture ranks in 2020 al first place in Europe for value added with 31.3 billion euros ahead of France (30.2 billion euros) and Spain (29.3 billion euros), even if the effects of the Covid emergency weigh, with a drop in gross value added at basic prices of 6, 1% by volume, and the units of work which decreased by 2, 4%. This is what emerges from the Coldiretti analysis based on Istat data for 2020.

"On the labor - Coldiretti underlines - the effects of the closure of the borders have been felt in a sector with a strong presence of foreign workers”. Sui economic results in the sector, on the other hand, "the drastic reduction in activity involving the sale of many agri-food products, from wine to beer, from meat to fish, from fruit to vegetables, which find an important outlet market in out-of-home consumption, weighed heavily. In some sectors such as fish and wine catering - Coldiretti specifies - it even represents the main marketing channel by turnover ".

L' farmhouse it was overwhelmed by the collapse of tourism and forced closures with losses estimated at at least one billion euros. There have also been - continues Coldiretti - serious speculative phenomena, as also noted by the Antitrust, for example on the price of milk but also in other sectors where the remuneration paid to farmers has also fallen below production costs.

To seize a unique opportunity, we have developed and proposed in time concrete projects that can be immediately set up for the agri-food sector with a decisive turn towards the green revolution, the ecological transition and the digital one capable of offering one million green jobs within the next 10 years”, affirms the President of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini.
