An internal document a Nestle has highlighted some valuation indices on theirs products: according to the report, 60% are considered as unhealthy.
This is a relationship initially aimed at the internal communication of the Swiss company, which has taken into account international parameters, the same used by the Access to Nutrition Foundation, one of the major international organizations in the sector. Subsequently the Financial Times was able to examine the internal document and eventually published it.
In the article, the FT writes: " Over 60% of the most famous products of the Swiss food giant Nestlé, including food and drinks, cannot be defined as 'healthy' and some of these will never be healthy regardless of attempts to renew them ". Throughout the text, it is also mentioned that: “only 37% (percentage calculated on the profits generated) of the group's products reach the score of 3.5 stars according to the Australian system. About 70% of food products, 96% of beverages (excluding pure coffee) and 99% pastry and ice cream does not reach that threshold. It is better for waters (82% is above 3.5 points) and dairy products (60%). "Usually, the 3.5 on a scale of 1 to 5 represent the limit within which a product can be considered" healthy "according to the main international evaluation systems.
In this analysis, no products were documented animals, coffee and other foods and beverages from the Health Science Division, which produces foods for people with specific medical conditions.
In presenting the document, Nestlé's internal communication is keen to explain that: "We have improved products significantly, but our portfolio underperforms external definitions in a context in which regulatory pressure and consumer demand grows strongly ".
