TO Genoa not only the concessions to the major spaces for i dehors released during 2021 will also be maintained for 2022, but it is likely that they will be free also for part of next year.

Paola Bordilli, councilor for Commerce, listening to the request of the managers of restaurants and bars (especially the latter), explained that the enlargement concessions will not expire on 31 December 2021 (initially they were supposed to expire at the end of June 2021, but were then extended until the end of the year), but will also be maintained for 2022. In addition, the structures can become fixed for those who wish. The Municipality is also evaluating how to allow it free of charge for at least a number of months in 2022.

In fact, some owners of premises have revealed that with the introduction of the Green Pass, are having some logistical problems: Fabrizio, the owner of the Murena bar in via XX Settembre, explained that many people either prefer not to show it or just don't have it. The result is that, despite being full of people outside, only four people entered his bar in one day: in this way he is losing customers.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Municipality of Genoa has issued more than 1,400 permits for outdoor areas, 510 in 2021 alone, for a total of 24,000 square meters of granted surface area. Currently the free access of these spaces is safe until December 31st. However Bordilli reassured everyone: Genoa was the first Italian city to ensure that the concessions of public land to have more space outside during the pandemic were free.

This happened already in 2020 and was repeated in 2021. Now, however, work is being done to understand whether it is feasible to extend it to 2022. The fact is that even if the pandemic were to disappear, the negative economic effects they will not end as suddenly. For this reason, it is necessary to make sure to help traders, allowing them to expand and streamlining the related bureaucratic procedure.

Many traders also believe that outdoor areas are also the ideal solution to help their businesses even during winter, given that, however, many customers prefer to stay outside. But to do this, additional spaces are needed outside, in order to also cover the lost places inside.
